Current methods of diagnosing dementia are often difficult due to the overlap of conditions that can cause dementia-like symptoms. As a result of this overlap, doctors must first eliminate any of these potential causes before they can determine dementia is the cause, making the diagnosis process a time-consuming one.

However, emerging technology, in the form of a smartphone app, has the potential to replace these methods.

The app analyses an individual’s voice for common linguistic features of people with dementia while also testing their short-term memory recall.
