Following a brutal chemical weapons attack allegedly perpetrated by the Syrian regime, the US is poised to intervene in an attempt to stop further bloodshed. But having learnt expensive lessons from their adventures in Iraq and Libya, a new ‘coalition of the willing’ will need to take care not to aggravate the situation, particularly given the regime’s large stockpiles of chemical and biological weaponry.
