The Pakistani Parliament is poised to impeach President Pervez Musharaf if he doesn’t resign soon. The Parliament finalized a charge sheet against the President yesterday, which outlined accusations of gross misconduct and violation of the constitution. In November 2007, Musharaf suspended the constitution, just days before the Supreme Court was to decide on the constitutional validity of his re-election to power in October 2007. He also jailed several members of the judiciary, political dissidents and human rights advocates and shut down all private television stations. It would be the first time a Pakistani President has been impeached in the country’s history.
