It is becoming harder and harder for indigenous communities to retain the cultural languages of their heritage rarely used anymore.

With a lower interest from younger generations in learning their ancestor’s languages, language organisations, such as the Ngukurr Language Centre, are now seeking new methods of keeping their student’s attention.

Thus, the Opal Project, funded by the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Dynamics of Language, has been created to help create a more interesting learning experience while not betraying the original purpose of teaching indigenous children indigenous languages.
