Several protesters have been arrested this week after locking onto equipment at Whitehaven Coal’s Maules Creek coal mine. This is part of an ongoing campaign to halt the mine expansion, which is expected to destroy half of the critically endangered Leard State Forest.

In particular, Whitehaven’s claims that they will offset the destruction of the forest are being called into question. The Federal Government’s Environmental Offsets approval process is now under Senate Inquiry. The campaign has brought together people from many different parts of the community.
