A remote Indigenous community has discovered it’s new sports program, designed to keep kids active after school, is having an even greater impact in the classroom. Pormpuraaw in Far North Queensland has created a football competition for children aged 5 to 13 with their participation based on school attendance and behaviour. Director of the Indigenous Education Leadership Institute Chris Sarra says the concept works because it’s community driven and rewards based.
