A record number of seven women have been promoted to the Prime minister’s new look cabinet, but one of the appointees that seems to be trending right now is Tasmanian senator Richard Colbeck, who has picked up the youth, aged care and sports portfolios.

At 61 years of age, some students are questioning the decision to appoint the sexagenarian as the Minister for Youth Affairs, wondering if his experiences and mindset is indicative of younger generations.

However, some parliamentarians and the Australian Youth Affairs Coalition don’t see his age as a problem, instead choosing to celebrate the reinstatement of the youth affairs portfolio, which was scrapped under former prime minister Tony Abbott.
