Julia Gillard has unveiled new Closing the Gap targets which aims to see 90 per cent of all indigenous children attend a quality, early childhood education program.

Targets set for early childhood education for remote indigenous communities will be met this year, so the Gillard government has committed over $6million to expand the program for all indigenous children.  I spoke with Emeritus Professor Judy Atkinson who spoke at the annual National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care conference in Cairns today – about what governments need to take into consideration for early childhood programs to be successful in indigenous communities.
