New figures shed light on the hidden problem of abuse of disabled people. It has been revealed that in Victoria there was 112 cases of alleged abuse of intellectually disabled people in state-funded care in 2011-12 by their carers. But advocates say they were not surprised by the news as this is an issue that has been going on for many years and this number is likely to be only the tip of the iceberg. They say a lack of serious government action and a failed system are putting disabled people in danger of serious abuse.
