The World Needs Midwives Now More Than Ever – that’s the theme for 2015’s International Day of the Midwife. With 290,000 women dying worldwide from childbirth related complications in 2013, midwives want to highlight the crucial role they can play in preventing death in both mothers and children. And they say there’s an urgent need to improve the availability, accessibility, accessibility and quality of midwifery services.
