Malcolm Turnbull has gracefully bowed out of politics, announcing today that he won’t contest the seat of Wentworth at the next election. Turnbull retired to the back bench after losing a leadership contest to Tony Abbott last year, and was recently overlooked as a replacement for former shadow finance minister Nick Minchin. Touted as a Liberal leader that believed in small L liberalism, his fall began when he challenged the party room by supporting the Government’s Emission Trading Scheme. So what will his departure mean for the Liberal party, and what kind of legacy does he leave behind?
