This morning, Opposition Leader Bill Shorten announced a push to reform visa laws in Australia. Citing fears that the Temporary Work (Skilled) or 457 visa, is creating an unfair employment climate that allows for Australian and overseas corporations to import cheaper labour from other countries.

457 visas have had a tumultuous few years, with rigorous and fervent debate in 2011 and 2012 resulting in tweaks and a name change.

While some experts are welcoming the idea of reforms, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has criticised Shorten, saying that he’s appealing to populism.
