Japan deal surprises fair trade advocates, pleases beef producers

Fair trade advocates are pleasantly surprised that a controversial clause was left out of Australia’s trade and investment deal with Japan. The clause, which is included other deals like the one signed today by Tony Abbott in Korea, can allow investors to sue the government in an international tribunal over laws that they don’t like. Beef producers, on the other hand, are very happy with both deals, which will see their exports to the region grow.
