Russia has officially been banned from the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang after the International Olympic Committee revealed widespread doping in the nation’s sports institutions.

The ban is the first of its kind since Afghanistan were banned from the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, and the IOC haven’t put a limit on its duration.

However Russia’s athletes will still be eligible to take part in the games under the Olympic flag, if they can prove they weren’t part of the doping scandal.
