The Australia Bureau of Statistics has released the results of a survey of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from across Australia. The results are a mixed bag: smoking rates are down but there is still a long way to go to truly close the gap.

The percentage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who smoke has dropped from 50% in 2008 to 41% in 2012-2013.These stats have come out of the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Survey 2012-13, released earlier this week.
