The 2011 Australasian Sexual Health conference brought together some of the brightest minds in the country to tackle sexual health issues. One of the main focuses of the conference was look at ways to address the rates of Sexually Transmitted Infections in Indigenous communities.

According to indigenous health experts, the current programs in place to help reduce the number of Sexually Transmitted Infections in indigenous communities are just not working.Head of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health program at the Kirby Institute James Ward says  there is an alarming difference between rates of STIs in Indigenous people compared to those in non indigenous people.
