Alcohol is the leading cause of birth defects as well as mental and developmental disabilities in the Western World. And sadly, 1 in 2 women still drink to some extent during pregnancy. Today, Communities for Children and the Drug Education Network addressed the epidemic in the first conference of its kind to be held in Australia. I spoke with the conference coordinator Vicki Russell and Darren Joslin from Alberta Children’s Services FASD Initiative in Canada about the detrimental effects of drinking during pregnancy, and also asked the pertinent question – how much is too much?
