By at least one measure, global food prices are at some of the highest levels since the 1970s. This year alone has seen sharp rises in the prices of coffee beans, corn, oats, cocoa and palm oil. Many recent media reports have attributed the spectacular rises in prices to climate change and it’s consequences, but how big a factor is climate change in our food prices? With the CSIRO releasing a new report forecasting climate change having a huge impact on agricultural yield, we investigate the ties between climate change and food prices.
