Historical Imam conference calls for better engagement with youth

Australian Imams have called for better engagament with Muslim youth, at a conference over the weekend. Nearly 100 of Australia’s senior Muslim religious leaders met at the two day Conference of Australian Imams, in what has been heralded as the first of its kind. Coming out of the discussions, is the plan to set up a new national board to represent the Muslim community. The aim of the board is to provide the Muslim community with a united voice. Muslim youth were highlighted as an area of importance. According to Dr Ameer Ali, Chairman of the federal government’s Muslim Community Reference Group, young Muslims are facing a number of problems including the need for better access to Imams. The Wire spoke with Dr Ali about the conference and asked who will be making up the new national board.
