Just over a year ago, the greyhound racing ban in New South Wales was overturned only eight months after being introduced. But in the Australian Capital Territory, the sport is now illegal.

The ban implemented on Monday means those caught racing in the ACT face fines of up to $15,000 or a year in jail.

On Sunday night the final race meet at the Canberra Greyhound Racing Club was an emotional event.
