In the wake of the Royal Commission’s scathing interim report into the aged care sector, disability advocates are calling on the government to increase temporary accommodation to stop young people languishing in facilities designed for older Australians.

There are currently almost 6,000 people under 65 who live in residential aged care in Australia, largely due to a lack of alternative accommodation.

The inquiry recommended urgent action to stop young people entering the system by 2022 and ensure no young people live there by 2025, a proposal backed by disability experts.
