Stem cells are the cells in your body from which all of your other cells are derived, kind of like the parent cells. Among some exciting applications for medicine is the ability to repair a damaged spinal cord. Lack of funding, philosophical and religious fears, and too many bogus treatments, are all preventing further advances in stem cell technology. But there are some promising results coming out of clinical trials in the US.
