Nine cabinet members and three backbenchers in his government have signed a petition saying they have lost confidence in his prime ministership. They want the Governor General to recall parliament for a vote of no confidence. The move follows Sogavare’s decision sack the former finance minister Gordon Darcy. For his part Sogavare – who has had a tense relationship with Australia and the regional assistance force RAMSI – today issued a statement claiming Darcy was rorting aid funds supposed to combat the tsunami. However, members of the media in the Solomons have told The Wire this is the first they have heard of these claims.
