Fly-in Fly-out is a term used to describe employees, most often in the mining industry, who fly to a remote location for a number of days’ work, then fly back home. Despite often being cheaper than relocating entire families to remote towns, the process often ignores the needs of regional centres who are crying out for increased economic activity. BMA’s Caval Ridge mine in central Queensland is currently stirring the debate, with numerous action groups demanding the mine establish at least some of its work force in the nearby town of Moranbah.
