The finalists have been announced for the Deadlys, Australia’s talent award for Indigenous Australians. At a ceremony in Sydney’s north today, the ballot boxes were opened for the newly announced nominees of the awards for the creative arts, sports and community service to be decided in late September. First-time nominees, previous finalists and organisers say 18 years on from the first Deadlys, the award continues to play an positive role in dismantling stereotypes and breaking the cycle of Indigenous disadvantage.
