A number of charities who outsource fundraising to private companies will be scrutinised by The Fair Work Ombudsman after a number of instances of workers being underpaid.

Fifteen charities with a range of incomes will be selected at random to ensure their business models are compliant with workplace laws and workers are being paid what they are entitled to.

It comes after private fundraising firm MonDial Communications was found to have underpaid their workers over $700 000 since 2010, paying them according to the minimum wage instead of their entitlement under the call centre award.
