Domestic politics at play in China’s military showcase

President Xi Jinping presided over a massive military parade this weekend, to mark 90 years since the creation of the Chinese army.

The event showcased the country’s military might and its dedication to modernising its arsenal.

But more importantly, it revealed the Chinese leader’s desire to consolidate power in the lead up to the Communist Party Congress this year.
