Australians want to die at home, but they often do not get the chance. Research by the Grattan Institute indicates that Australians enjoy the comfort of their homes in their final days half as much as those in New Zealand, the United States, Ireland and France. As the Australian population ages and the demand for palliative care increases, it’s time for some difficult discussions about dying.
