Up to 15 per cent of people over 65 suffer  from a debilitating mental health state. This is higher for those living in residential aged care facilities.

While today on National Mental Health Day, discussions are taking place around the country to destigmatise these issues , older Australians can often be left out.

Reporter Annie Hastwell takes a look at the hidden and growing problem of depression in the elderly.
