Have you ever been in trouble with Centrelink? For the last 30 years, the NSW Welfare Rights Centre has been the bastion for people needing advice and legal representation when they fall foul of the social security arm of the Australian government.

But the NSW government has made the surprise decision to cut the organisations’ funding, meaning a whopping 40 per cent of the Centers’ money has disappeared. In a time when state governments are looking to reign in spending, advocacy groups could be the first on the chopping block.
