Cuban Communist Party begins to embrace capitalism

The Cuban Communist Party is currently holding its first congress in over 14 years – an attempt to breath life into the Caribbean island’s ailing economy and stagnant political system. Sweeping changes have been announced including the legalisation of private property, the phasing out of ration cards and term limits for political leaders. But there are no plans to do away with the one-party system that has been in place since the revolution in 1959.
