A report released by the Australian Centre of Excellence for Local Government says the Federal Budget will make it harder for local government to maintain its leadership as a major employer of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. 5% of the local government workforce is Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and cuts to the local government could inevitably lead to the rise of Indigenous unemployment.
