In the Philippines, voters are going to the polls today to elect their country’s new president. More than 54 million people are registered to vote across a nation of seven thousand islands. Controversial mayor, Rodrigo Duterte is looking likely to triumph on an anti-crime, anti-corruption platform. While his tough stance has resonated well with voters in a country where high crime and corruption pervade, human rights groups accuse him of allowing vigilantes to kill hundreds of suspected criminals without due course to the law.  So what’s behind the man likely to be the Philippines’ next president?
