A loophole in a new law to ban cluster bombs has seen Australian NGO’s calling for amendments to the draft legislation. Australia has signed the 2008 international treaty against the use and stockpiling of cluster munitions, however Parliament needs to pass legislation before it can be ratified. The interpretation of the treaty has created a potential loophole that could see Australia stockpiling cluster bombs and assisting in their operation, going against the purpose and intent of the original treaty.
