In a time of crisis you will often find many people volunteering in country fire services, or the CFS, boldly protecting those in need, in the case of a fire or emergency. However under a South Australian government initiative, these volunteers who expose themselves to harmful toxins (which have been discovered to cause cancer) will not be compensated for health problems in the future.

This is not the case for the Metropolitan Fire Service or MFS, as their employed fire fighters will receive access to work cover payments.
