Several national disability peak bodies, including People with Disability Australia (PWDA) have launched an online campaign calling upon Attorney General Christian Porter and all federal MPs to extend legislation provisions in the Royal Commissions Act 1902 to provide extra protections at next week’s sitting of Parliament for witnesses submitting evidence at the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability, due to conclude in 2022.

The #MakeItSafeToSpeak campaign outlines why this discrepancy needs to be rectified in guaranteeing full confidentiality for those wanting to disclose their traumatising, distressing personal stories without fear of repercussions if perpetrators still working in the system get a hold of this information.

For more details about the campaign, including how to co-sign an open letter to Attorney General Porter, just visit Disabled People’s Organisations Australia‘s website.
