Australian seniors are receiving unfair tax breaks according to a report released today by the Grattan Institute.

Seniors receive, on average, $32,000 a year from the government more than they contribute in income and sales taxes – $10,000 more than their predecessors did 10 years ago.

The report outlined three recommendations that could see the government save $1 billion every year.

With the national deficit close to $40 billion, are taxes like this necessary?
