The department of Environment and Heritage will disband a unique collection of thousands of documents that provide a pre-eminent record of the modern era of Australian heritage conservation. As part of budget cuts to the Department, the libraries holding these collections will also be closed by the end of the year. The department says it will maintain the integrity of the collection on digital platforms. But with little to no transparency in this process, heritage experts fear that this unique collection could be lost forever.
