A support program for Indigenous men caught up in the cycle of violence is winning support from magistrates in the Hunter Valley region – as an alternative to jail time. Organiser Brian Dowd has 40 men currently involved in the intensive 10 week program, and he’s expanding to offer the Black on Track initiative to men in neighbouring areas. Mr Dowd says the program is successful because it’s culturally appropriate. And one participant says the program stopped him from committing suicide and helped him to be honest with himself.
