The appealing idea of less bureaucracy and more community control of services was summed up in one phrase- Big Society – and helped get David Cameron’s government into power in the UK in 2010. The policy now has many critics and there are warnings that the Coalition may be adopting Big Society as an election plank in Australia.
Speakers at an event in Sydney this week warned that Big Society was an ideological cover for cutting back government services.
