Gladstone’s three week fishing ban was lifted today, but with the port city’s sick fish woes largely unsolved, many locals are wondering why. For months, fishermen have been catching fish with rashes, sores and cloudy eyes in Gladstone’s harbour. More recently, people started getting sick as well.

Some, like Queensland Greens spokesperson Dr Libby Connors, say recent dredging in the harbour for the Liquefied Natural Gas development may have affected the water. But a Queensland government report released this week found there has been no change in water quality since January.
