Today is West Papuan independence day. Incredibly, it’s gaol for 15 years if you raise the flag of West Papua anywhere there or elsewhere in Indonesia – just ask Filep Karma independence leader currently behind bars for just that. New President Widodo has sounded sympathetic to West Papuans, but continues to send more settlers, more military hardware for the garrisons.
