Australia’s uranium deal with India risky business

Australia has agreed to trade uranium with India as long as strict safety measures are abided and the resources are not used in the production of nuclear weapons. Prime Minister Tony Abbott signed the deal despite India’s active nuclear weapons program and repeated refusal to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The controversial agreement is being dubbed a strategic move to create stronger relations with the rising power.
