The head of the Australian Medical Association (AMA) Dr Michael Gannon, has made the controversial claim that the closure of Victoria’s Hazelwood coal-fired power plant’s may have a serious impact from the job losses, which could outweigh the health benefits of the plant’s closure.

Members of the AMA have threatened to quit over  the comments made and a number of health professionals have come out to shoot down the claims, labeling them ‘short sighted’.
