The Federal Government has today made it legal for Australian companies to import, sell and store marijuana for medicinal purposes.

The decision will make it easier for cancer patients or others with painful long-term illnesses to receive the drug sooner, without having to source it overseas.

The Australian Government’s new plan means medicinal cannabis can be grown and supplied locally.

For now, medical cannabis is being grown in Tasmania on a trial basis but soon it could be more freely available in other Australian states too.
