Australia also vulnerable to sport corruption, says Xenophon


As a massive match fixing scandal unfolds in Europe, anti gambling advocates say that Australia’s sporting codes are also vulnerable to corruption.

They point out that the alleged centre of the international match fixing crime ring was right on our doorstep in Singapore. Over the last few years the number of obscure things you can bet on in Australia has exploded. Those who already take a dim view of gambling say that this proliferation of betting opportunities provides many subtle ways that players could be enticed to influence the course of a game.
