The draft of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People calls on governments to recognise the right to restitution of lands and resources. Committee member Dalee Sambo Drough of the Inuit people of Alaska believes Article 27 leaves no doubt that the right to restitution is in International Law. Les Malezer of the Foundation for Aboriginal and Islander Research and Action says the Australian system of Native Title is not a fair and appropriate mechanism.
