Last week Indigenous Australian poet Ali Cobby Eckermann received a telephone call of a lifetime.

Currently unemployed and living in a caravan in Adelaide, Eckermann was notified Thursday she won the Windham Campbell Prize for her poetry.

Eckermann, a member of the stolen generation is hoping the success and acknowledgment of her work will help push indigenous poetry and art forward.
