Australia is on its way to being the world’s first to force digital giants to pay news media outlets directly for the use of news content on their platforms.

The Treasurer Josh Frydenberg unveiled the Australia’s competition regulator’s news bargaining media code last Friday. This landmark move intends to rectify existing power imbalances between Australia news media outlets and it’s digital platforms.

This follows a lengthy ACCC investigation which recommended digital giants share their income with independent journalism entities.
