Yesterday the government announced it will scrap the 457 work visa scheme, replacing it with a new system aimed at giving preference to Australian workers, while stamping out the previous exploitation of foreign workers. The announcement wasn’t all about jobs however, giving focus to the ‘Australian values’ of those on work visas hoping to find permanent residency.
